Disc Bulge

The disc are a cartilage type material between the vertebrae of the spine.  The disc play a cushioning and connective role for the spine.  Faulty movement/posture can lead to degeneration of the disc and in some case lead to an inflammatory reaction.

With severe degeneration discs can bulge or become inflamed causing irritation to the surrounding structures.  In the lumbar spine this is often associated with nerves contributing to the sciatic nerve.  By reducing muscular spasm we can reduce pressure on the disc.  This can lead to the reduction of inflammation around the disc.

Flexion-Distraction is a traction machine I use to take pressure off the disc, restoring motion and thus helping to reduce inflammation around the joint.

If you suspect a disc bulge  (slipped disc) this is a gentle method to help restore motion.

Flexion-Distraction Traction Machine

The Flexion-Distraction traction machine is a therapeutic device designed to aid individuals with bulging discs. This gentle and targeted treatment approach involves the use of a specialised table that allows controlled stretching and flexion of the spine.

For individuals with bulging discs, the machine works by creating a pumping action on the intervertebral disc. As the spine is gently flexed and stretched, it helps to reduce pressure on the affected disc and may facilitate the retraction of the bulge. This process also promotes increased circulation to the affected area, fostering a healing environment.

In the acute stages of disc issues, the Flexion-Distraction table can be particularly effective in relieving pain and discomfort associated with bulging discs. Over the long term, this therapy, when combined with rehabilitation and movement training, aims to improve stabilisation and address the underlying factors contributing to the disc condition, offering a comprehensive approach to disc bulge management.

We’re one of the few clinics that offer this treatment modality, we have success with many clients.
