Gentle Yoga is a combination of Hatha Yoga and procedures used in teaching The Alexander Technique. Emphasis is placed on stretching and getting into postures in a slow, mindful, and coordinated manner.

Each student is given individual attention, and the teacher may place their hands on you to assist you and adjust you (if you wish) to ensure you are doing the postures in an easeful and coordinated manner so that you do not strain or hurt yourself.

They may also tailor the postures to your individual needs or give you alternative postures if you have injuries or are physically compromised in any way. For this reason, and due to the size of the studio, classes are small: 6 – 8 people max.

What is the Alexander Technique?

While well-known and used extensively in Music and Performing Arts training as well as in some sports such as Tennis, Golf, and Equestrian training, the Alexander Technique teaches people to become aware of how they use themselves, address long-held habits of misuse, develop coordination, balance, and postural tone, and find freedom and ease of movement.

The Alexander Technique can also relieve pain, reduce stress and anxiety, improve breathing, and voice issues and also help one to develop mindfulness and resilience to cope with the challenges of everyday life.

FM Alexander believed that the mind and the body are not separate but one and the same.

What affects us physically, also affects us mentally and emotionally and vice versa.

By the same token the word Yoga means to yoke or bring together the mind, body, and spirit in an effort to achieve inner balance and peace.
